Day 1 Thursday 29th July
Edinburgh to Morpeth 106 miles
We started our ride this morning with a temperature of 15 degrees and just a very light rain, nice and cool and comfortable for the ride. We arrived at Morpeth (which is 14 miles from Newcastle) this evening. I’m pleased with my performance today and I’m looking forward to the next 3 days!
Day 2 Friday 30th July
Newcastle to Leeds 100 miles
It has been a terrible day riding in torrential rain and to make matters worse at 57 miles into the ride one of our riders crashed badly and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance with a suspected head injury. I’ll let you know how he is when I know.
We set off again at a great pace and eventually made it to Leeds and the good news is that our rider is out of hospital and all is well though he won’t be able to continue the ride. Only 80 miles tomorrow.
Day 3 Saturday 31st July
Leeds to Derby 86 miles
The weather is a lot better today, it’s nice and sunny and we have stopped in Norton for lunch. We met a kind lady today who donated to us on the road. Only one more day left.
Day 4 Sunday 1st August
Derby to West Bromwich 49 miles
This is my last day and we have just passed through Fradley Junction a favourite destination on Wheelers club rides and not much further to go until the ride is complete. I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone at the Wheelers who supported me and especially the Sunday club rides that prepared me for this challenge.
