The Wheelers annual Hill Climb contest took place last Saturday in somewhat damp conditions.
The event was staged by the Newport C. C. and took in the traditional climb of Bridge Road starting from outside Darcy's Restaurant (Formerly the Station Inn).
In such conditions the event record of 3m 5s was held by former International and 5 times National Hill climb Champion Stuart Dangerfield was never under threat.
Only two Wheelers took part, defending Champion Matt Morris and Richard Sadlier, a sad reflection upon 30 years ago when Stuart won against a field of 31 Wheelers riders.
However, quality times were posted by both riders, Matt coming out on top with 3m 55s against Richard's 4m 14s to make this his 6th consecutive win and 7th in total!
Many thank to Jim & Jane Morrison for their hospitality and to Dave Cunningham for standing in for Robin on the day.
Let's hope that we see a greater number of entrants next year, after all it is open to anyone 12 years old and above and is only a few minutes duration!
This was the final round of this year's Track League and the racing was unfortunately curtailed by rain.
Meeting cancelled due to heavy rain.
