Turn up and coast
The Club finally managed to hold the annual Freewheel Contest today that was originally planned to take place last November. On the plus side the weather was somewhat warmer and drier than normal!
The field was made up of old hands and some for whom this was their first experience of a non-pedalling bike race!
With a gusting tail wind from the North East many rides rolled well past their usual stopping point.
In the end it was the veterans who stole the day with 'Young Vet' Steve Edwards outpacing defending Champion Robin Kyte by at least two bike lengths. Another former winner and consistent podium finisher, Alan Cooper took third spot.
Many thanks to D. Hill (Dave Hill) and Pete Hartill for their support and officiating.
Covid permitting the 2021 event will be held at the more traditional time early in November. Keep an eye on the Wheelers website closer to the end of October for details.
