WOLVERHAMPTON WHEELERS CYCLING CLUB Welcome to the “Wheelers” one of the oldest and most successful cycling clubs in the Country

Downhill Championships

November 17th

The only race where there is no pedaling involved. With the crank strapped to the frame with an old fashioned toe clip strap
you can just sit on the bike and freewheel as far as you can.

The Down Hill/Freewheel contest saw a very good turn out of around 30 riders with around 20 testing their downhill skills.... Including multiple World, European & National Champion - Andy Tennant! Andy confirmed that he will be riding alongside Bradley Wiggins in his new team for next year - maybe we could get Bradley to attempt to add the Dave Hill Trophy to his palmares?

The favourable wind conditions mention that the distances were a little longer this year, with strong bench marks being put down early on. Despite the hype and banter between last years winner Matt Morris and multiple former winner Robin Kyte it was new member Chris Harris (left) who stole the show piping Robin by less than half a wheel and Matt having an off day.... World Champion Andy Tennant not far behind along with Veterans Cyclo-Cross star Shaun Hammond.

Dave Hill  was very pleased with the large turn out which meant that not everyone could fit into the Spiders Web Cafe, meaning that we had an 'overspill' section at the local garden centre!

In all it was a welcome change from the training and competition - many thanks to all those who entered into the spirit of the event.

It did however highlight the fact that the younger riders did not know how toe straps worked!

As they say a sign of modern times'!
