Wolverhampton Wheelers Cycling Club
Appeal for Officials February 2019
Dear Members, this is an open letter to the membership highlighting current concerns and requesting support in key areas of our club.
Like any such club, our continued success is directly attributable to those members who take time out to ensure that we are able to function as required by the sport’s Governing Bodies, Sport England and the local authorities.
The Wheelers currently have two senior positions that need to be filled, namely those of Chairman and Treasurer. We are fortunate to have a committee staffed by loyal and dedicated volunteers occupying many and varied positions. This means that a great deal of the work done by the club is shared between the committee and volunteers, each dealing with a specific aspect of the clubs’ activities.
Hence the Chairman’s role is primarily focused on delegation, direction and representation. This means chairing the club’s monthly committee meetings (Vice Chair or President may preside over the meeting in the Chairs absence) and generally co-ordinating the efforts of the other committee members. The Chair may be occasionally called upon to represent the club at meetings with the local authority or the Sports organising bodies. Our thanks to retired Chairman, Alan Cooper who valiantly picked up the reigns last year as an interim measure – Thank You Alan (and of course Alison).
The Treasurers role is to keep account of our income and expenditure and to report our financial position at each committee meeting. This is a ‘hands on’ position, receiving funds from events, issuing payments in support of club activities and depositing funds into our Bank account. Consequently, the treasurer needs to be readily accessible to organisers and the committee.
Our finances have been expertly managed by our retiring treasurer Susan Ruston. Our audited accounts are fully up to date and Susan will be on hand to support her successor before her retirement at the end of May - A heartfelt thankyou to Susan for all her hard work over the years.
Road Race League Organiser to co-ordinate this year’s event – preferably one of the regular league riders. This is to take charge on the day of the event as most of the organisation is already in place.
Coaches: We are looking to recruit more volunteers to be trained as British Cycling accredited coaches. The club will help fund the cost of the courses, including an appointed Fist Aid accreditation.
Any member volunteering for any of the above positions will be fully supported and aided by the committee and the clubs long standing officials/coaches to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.
Our volunteers and officials are our most precious resource, without which there would be no Wolverhampton Wheelers… We need to fill these positions to ensure that the Wheelers continues as a prominent and successful cycling club. In other words…..
‘YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!’
