Ron Aspey

Ron was a 'Wheeler' through and through and enjoyed every aspect of cycling from racing through to touring, Ron had done it all.

A genial and quiet man, but with a steely endurance that saw so many come and go within the club. He held various positions within the committee but many will remember him as the Press Secretary and Newsletter Editor, positions he held for many decades.

Ron joined the club in the early 1940's racing and touring but also enjoying the social side of the Wheelers.

He would take his family away on the bikes hostelling and stopping at B&B's a lasting and cherished memory of his was touring with a group of fellow riders around Europe and into Austria, climbing some of the highest peaks, with all the camping and cooking gear on board - no mean feat!

Another love of Ron's was walking in the countryside and a regular feature of the Cycling Club was Ron's 'New Years Day Walk' - always well attended, even in the worst of weathers all down to Ron and his enthusiasm.

Throughout all this time he shared these experiences with his Life Long friend, Ron Moule - two 'likely lads' who would become the revered elder statesmen of the club, affectionately known as "The  Two Ronnies". They were seldom seen outside of each others company and enjoyed a unique camaraderie.

Right up to the last Ron would regularly be seen at the Club and watching the Track League - no doubt reliving old memories as if they were only yesterday.

So it is that we say good bye to one of our most beloved members and hope that he can continue riding in the afterlife with all those who have gone before him.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to Ron's wife Margaret, his two sons Michael and Robert and their families.

Ron will be laid to rest at the Telford Crematorium, Woodhouse Lane, Red Hill TF2 9NJ on Friday 13th July at 1.30 pm.

Family Flowers only.
