Event Report

On Sunday the 19th September, the sun shone for the final round of the West Midlands Road Race League: The Wolverhampton Wheelers Velo Viroconium at Leighton. Located near the Wroxeter Roman City, this was a new race to the Wheelers calendar as our more traditional races were unable to run due to the Covid pandemic. Fine conditions and a good turn out destined this to be a good race.

The riders tackled 6 laps of the 58-mile course. With the undulating profile and the Strava KOM segment up into Eaton Constantine, a breakaway soon formed putting over a minute on the chasing group. However even with the pace pushing 26mph the pack caught the breakaway in the final lap. In the end it was Emile Glorieux in 3rd, Jack Fothergill in 2nd and Well done to Corey Ashley who took the win for Team PB Performance.

Also, a special well done to our Strava segment winners taking the King of the Mountain up the 5% gradient; Emile Glorieux, Aaron Shepherd, Jacques Coates, Finn McHenry and the Wheelers very own Damion Guest. Your prizes will be in the post shortly.

Lastly, the Wheelers would like to thank all the marshals and volunteers who gave up their Sunday to make the race happen – Thank you! Also, special thanks as always to Simon for doing the timing chips for us.

We hope to see you again next year for the return of the Two Counties and Severn Valley GP.
